Voice and Script
As you are developing your Speech Application, keep in mind that you are trying to simulate a
conversation between two people as much as possible. Here are a few ideas for ways to make your
conversation flow more smoothly and seem more personal:
- Use the first person when talking to your caller- say ?I? and ?you.?
- Vary the wording you use throughout the call. This keeps it from sounding too mechanical.
-
Make sure the words you use in your questions match up with the words in your Grammars. For example,
let?s say that in your Speech Application, "Billing" and "Payments" are both part
of the same basic Concept. If you ask "Would you like information about billing?" make sure
your Grammar The Grammar contains the words and phrases for which the program will listen in a given
Module. Concepts, Phrases, Confirmations, Responses, and the Phrase Library are all part of the Grammar
List. includes the word "Billing" and not just the word "Payments".
-
The voice you use to record your Voxes is important because it gives your call its personality. Think
about what type of person is most likely to call your Speech Application- men or women? Teenagers,
adults, or seniors? In what context will they be calling? Decide what type of voice would appeal to
most to these callers to keep them from becoming frustrated.
